egil olsen is not like other singer / songwriters. he is known as one of the most entertaining live performers of norway with his little but big songs, where his unpredictable humor and comic timing is carefully balanced with his vulnerable, beautiful and naively honest songs. he has, since his first album in 2007, i am a singer/songwriter, operated as a one-stop-shop; producing his own records, released on his own little label. all with self-made artwork and music videos. he has, to mention a few things, made music for films and television, gotten over a million views on chinese youtube, shown up as a 3D animated character performing his own songs in the computer game ‘dreamfall chapters’, made an ongoing weekly tour blog for radio, done countless live shows and played everything from the smallest bars to the biggest clubs, the tiniest garden parties to the mainstage on norway’s festival number one; øya. he has toured norway, china, japan and the us. he has also had his own daily comic strip in the main newspaper in norway about himself and the “somewhat pathetic life of a relatively unknown superstar”. he has always gone his own way and was even honored with a very own tribute album, released on limited vinyl, with norwegian artists like thom hell, jenny hval, sondre lerche and robert post covering his songs.
he recently released his fourth album, ooo what happened, to rave reviews. “beyond beautiful songs” was the headline in one of norway’s biggest newspapers, while music expert audun vinger stated that cult hero egil olsen has for a long time been “one of norway’s very best songwriters.” the album was later released as a stripped down live album and a film, recorded direct to tape at the breathtaking studio ocean sound recordings.
as for now, egil olsen is writing and recording new material for his next album.
